The Week of the Young Child is an annual celebration that takes place each April and is sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the largest organization of early childhood professionals.  First established in 1971, the Week of the Young Child recognizes that childhood is a unique and valuable stage of life. It’s a time to grow, to learn, and to build the foundation for the future.

This year, the Week of the Young Child is being celebrated April 12-18. It  highlights the importance of families, early childhood professionals, and communities working together to support every child’s healthy development and early learning. The WJCS Parent Child Programs celebrated this year with a Special Zoom Music time for all our ParentChild+ families in seven communities across Westchester. Ninety families participated! We applaud all WJCS staff and our clients who are parents and working so hard to provide Equal Possibilities From the Start for all children.

We invite you, the community, to become engaged and have your voice heard. It’s so important to:

  • Raise Public Awareness of the wonderful early childhood programs in Westchester
  • Support Public Policy and Advocacy for quality early childcare and education
  • Educate Elected Officials on the needs of families and children
  • Support Family Literacy, Home Visiting Programs and Parent Engagement Programs

Take the opportunity of the Week of the Young Child to celebrate, give recognition and thanks to all those who have contributed to the quality of services of our young children and their families in our child care programs, schools and community.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL  for making a positive difference in the lives of the children and families
