WJCS was proud to host a Family Service Day on Monday, October 12, in observance of Columbus/Indigenous Peoples’ Day, at Headquarters in White Plains, bringing together approximately 80 children and parents for a meaningful day of service and community.

Led by WJCS Volunteer and Event Coordinator Marci Allen, volunteers assembled more than 80 hygiene kits for local adolescents served through our 11 School-Based Mental Health Clinics in Westchester. These kits were filled with basic necessities, including deodorant, soap, shampoo, and dental products, so students can feel confident, cared for, and ready to succeed in school. Director of Yonkers School-based Services LeRoy Ennis, along with staff from our Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHC), spoke about the importance of the kits and the challenges many families face in making ends meet.

We are so grateful to local teens and the mother-son pairs from the Young Men’s Service League of Westchester who joined the event as Teen Leaders to assist our younger helpers in the day’s activities. Volunteers created colorful posters with encouraging messages to welcome students to our school-based clinics. These uplifting displays help foster spaces where young people feel seen, valued, and cared for from the moment they walk through the door.

Our next Family Service Day will take place on Veteran’s Day, November 11. Please join us in packing Thanksgiving Spice Kits to complement our Food Pantry Drive for the holiday season and support clients with food insecurity. Click here to register!

Thank you to Rohanna Meterns for photographing the event.
