WJCS celebrated the 3rd Annual Holocaust Survivor Day by hosting a festive luncheon on Wednesday July 12th at Westchester Reform Temple in Scarsdale. Eighty people, which included 50 survivors and their support network of family and caregivers, attended the gathering.

New York State Shelley B. Mayor choked up with emotion as she spoke to the survivors about their heroism and the important lessons we can learn from them. Cantor Amanda Kleinman and Cantor Danny Mendelson sang and beautifully filled the room with their voices. Survivors joined hands, and danced the hora and celebrated life.

“Holocaust Survivor Day is dedicated to honor survivors and their families. The luncheon is so important because it pays tribute to the resiliency of this community of survivors and the lives and legacy they have built,” said Allison Danzig, Coordinator of WJCS Holocaust Survivor Services. “Holocaust survivors will not be with us for much longer, and it is important to learn from them and tell their stories. Their lives, which showed the worst of humanity, represent strength courage, and hope. We must share their stories so the world never forgets, and ensure ‘never again.’ ”

WJCS hosted the celebration in partnership with UJA-Federation of NY, Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany, and Westchester Reform Temple. The delicious luncheon was catered by Seasons in Scarsdale.
