In partnership with the Joe Torre Safe At Home Foundation, WJCS staffs “Margaret’s Place” safe rooms in public schools across Westchester County.

Margaret’s Place educates youth and school communities about violence prevention and conducts public aware campaigns in schools by engaging youth leaders. The program supports young people affected by family and relationship abuse by providing a safe place in schools where students affected by violence can meet with a professional counselor or social worker trained in domestic violence intervention and prevention.

Offerings include:

  • Violence awareness and prevention curricula
  • Individual and group counseling
  • Prevention workshops
  • Peer leadership programs
  • Staff, parent/family and community workshops on youth violence and intervention strategies for the school, home and community.

The three Westchester sites are:

  • Cross Hill Academy (Yonkers) – Emerson Middle School (Yonkers)
  • Peekskill Middle School
  • White Plains High School
