The average student loses 17–34% of the prior year’s learning during the summer break, according to a study published in the American Educational Research Journal, We’re several weeks into the summer, a perfect time to make sure that you are making the most of your children’s free time. Fortunately, there is an abundance of entertaining and enriching library programs throughout Westchester which children and teens will enjoy and benefit from as well.

Eastchester Public Library:

Larchmont Public Library:
Graphic novel art, crafts, and cooking are just some of the classes being offered by the Larchmont library.  There’s also a Storytime in Constitution Park that takes place at 3:45 pm every Thursday. A Tween Trivia program is for kids in grades 3-5,.. Registration is online to participate in this Zoom event on August 6th at 3:45pm. Prizes will be given to first and second place winners. New Rochelle Public Library:
Get your children and teens into the competitive spirit by joining one of the library’s reading challenges. They can track their progress by logging their reading activity to earn points and prizes throughout the summer. Besides reading, there are a host of interactive programs including “Eureka! Discover Your Inner Scientist” and a wealth of resources, including book and website recommendations for kids. Pound Ridge Library:

Yonkers Public Library:
The Yonkers Public Library encourage kids to read throughout the summer with their online reading program READsquared’ This program, for all ages ,offers book recommendations, literacy games, raffles, and more. Registration is free and online. One of its other programs is called Storytime Artists. It invites teens to create artwork inspired by an artist’s work.
