Preparation for the High School Equivalency Exam

The WJCS Academic and Career Support Program at the Mary J. Blige Center for Women includes academic instruction for adult basic education (ABE) and preparation for the new high school equivalency exam: Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC). Instruction takes place daily in a 10-15 person setting with one-on-one supportive tutoring available for students in need of more individual assistance. Participating students also are eligible for professional learning assessments used to enhance the teaching dynamic and provide the students a sense of their strengths and challenges.

Career Readiness workshops are offered on resume writing, interview skills, job searches and other related topics. Individual job coaching is available to participants of the career readiness program, which features individualized Employment Plans and regular one-on-one meetings. Participants of the program also are eligible for paid internship opportunities that allow them to gain hands-on work experience.

A Case Manager at the WJCS Academic and Career Support program plays a key role in helping the students in the program overcome legal, parenting, work-related, and other obstacles in order to pass their high school equivalency exam.
