Respond to the Census and Shape the Future
WJCS is proud to be a community partner with the 2020 Census and we want to encourage you to fill out the Census for your household. It's vital that everyone who lives in Westchester participate, as the number of people counted as residents in the Census will help determine how federal funding is disseminated to local communities. Funds are needed to provide Westchester residents with services of all kind and for all age groups so please be sure to complete the survey. Data from the 2020 Census will be used to determine your representation in Congress, as well as how funds are spent for roads, schools, hospitals, and more.
If you have already completed the Census survey, please encourage your friends and relatives to do the same. If you haven't yet filled out the survey, you can mail in the one that was sent to your home by the government, complete one on the phone by calling (844) 330-2020, or filling out the form online at: www.2020census.gov.
Many people are concerned about privacy issues. Please know that the Census does not ask about immigration or citizenship status, your job, or your Social Security or ITIN number. Your responses are private, protected by federal law, and will never be shared with anyone, including law enforcement or your landlord.
We've come a long way since the first U.S. Census was conducted in 1790 when Census takers went home to home by horseback or on foot. Then, approximately 650 U.S. Marshalls and assistants recorded answers on forms made of parchment and animal skins! The 2020 Census is the first one with the option for responding online, by phone or by mail. One thing remains the same, even after 200 years. The Census provides an important snapshot of our nation.
The Census is composed of only 10 questions, takes about 10 minutes to fill out, and will shape Westchester County’s future for the next 10 years. If you don't respond now, Census takers are scheduled to visit non-responding households between August 11 – October 31st and will enter answers on their secure Census Bureau smart phone.
Please fill out the Census—for your benefit and that of your neighbors.
