As we celebrate 10 years of Chai House, a residential home for Jewish women with intellectual and developmental disabilities, we reflect on the beautiful lives of the women who call it home. We find it so rewarding to see the ways in which they have grown and continue to grow, the personal choices they make which are encouraged and honored by staff, and the generous and supportive families who have made this journey possible.
We will soon celebrate Hanukah. Behind the candles and the latkes lies a powerful story of a fight preserve to Jewish identity. When Judah Maccabee was victorious, he lit a flame. All of us together lit a flame at Chai House 10 years ago, enabling the Jewish identity of the women who reside there to continue to glow. Today we encourage you to help ensure that the flame of Chai House burns bright.
To continue to keep Chai House the lovely home its residents deserve, we are constantly faced with needed capital improvements which are not funded by New York State. For the 10th anniversary of Chai House and in recognition of Hanukah, we have set a goal to raise $17,500 to enable:
- Painting outside of the house and the front door at a cost of $10,000
- Repair of the flagstone back patio at a cost of $5,000
- Replacement of the railroad ties around front garden at a cost of $2,500

Thank you for keeping the flame burning bright!
