At WJCS Wiener Academy Learning Comes Alive

Published Monday, April 3, 2017

The WJCS Wiener Academy for Young Women is making learning fun and preparing 7th and 8th grade students for their futures. Learning what chemists can do came alive when they turned a mix of ingredients into fun, green slime. They are also learning about other professionals: lawyers, detectives, philosophers, doctors, artists and songwriters and choosing one that interests them. The students are challenged to research every aspect of their “chosen profession,” including educational and experience requirements and income likely to be earned. Once this is completed, they then prepare a 30-second elevator pitch, timeline for their projected careers and a 5-minute presentation about their career choice. They cap this off by playing the role in front of their peers. Learn more about the Wiener Academy and how it is enhancing girls’ academic and personal development.
