WJCS Kids' Kloset is a volunteer-driven program that provides Westchester County children and families in need with donated clothing and related items free of charge. Since Kids' Kloset was opened in 2011, it has provided over 7,000 local children with clothing and diapers. Items like diapers and wipes need to be new. Financial contributions allow Kids' Kloset to provide items that are not donated. An online contribution can be made here.
Items are ordered by agencies with a specific family in mind and then hand-packed to meet the needs, sizes and situation of the family. Each bag of clothing given out is directed to a particular family. Kids' Kloset accepts requests from Westchester-based public schools, clinics, houses of worship, social services organizations, shelters and anyone who works with youth living in need. Donations are distributed via social services agencies across the county.
Children, newborn to 18 years of age, receive "bags of love” with clothing prepared into outfits free of rips, stains, and missing buttons. The bags represent more than clothing. We believe they boost the confidence and esteem of the youth, potentially helping to improve grades at school and reduce stress in the household. And parents can be assured their children have clean, appropriate, well-fitting clothing.
Kids' Kloset is always in need of volunteers to sort and pack clothing. It’s a great opportunity for individuals as well as youth, corporate and school groups, community organizations and houses of worship to lend a hand.
