Senior Programs in Mount Vernon

Social and Recreational Activities for Seniors at Sinai Free Synagogue

A range of social, educational and fitness activities are offered for senior adults from surrounding communities at Sinai Free Synagogue in Mt. Vernon. The programs are available for a nominal fee, and no one is turned away because of inability to pay. A daily hot kosher lunch is served on-site.

Programming includes:

SENIOR CANTEEN, Tuesdays and Thursdays featuring a seated exercise class, card playing, board games, a Yiddish club, and discussion groups.
Chairobics is sponsored on Monday mornings by Westchester County Dept. of Senior Programs and Services.  Transportation is provided for eligible participants.

ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES include art, yoga, low-impact aerobics and stretch classes, entertainment, trips and shopping help.  Chug Tanach, a Bible study group, meets on Thursday mornings. Smart on Art, a drawing class, is offered through the Westchester Community College Mainstream program.

JEWISH HOLIDAY CELEBRATIONS involve many participants and invite family and friends.

KOSHER HOME-DELIVERED MEALS serve homebound individuals in Mt. Vernon, parts of Yonkers, New Rochelle, Eastchester, Pelham and Bronxville. Volunteers are always needed to deliver meals. Contact Caron Gelles at 914-668-4350 or e-mail for details.
