Pass It On Kid's Kloset
Pass It On Kid's Kloset is a not-for-profit, volunteer-driven program affiliated with WJCS that provides Westchester County children and families in need with donated clothing and related items free of charge. Since Kid's Kloset was opened in 2011, it has provided approximately 3,000 local children with clothing, diapers, strollers and other items.
Children, newborn to 18 years of age, receive "bags of love." Each "bag of love" contains a week’s worth of clothing prepared into outfits free of rips, stains, missing buttons, etc. The bags represent more than clothing. We believe they boost the confidence and esteem of the youth, potentially helping to improve grades at school and reduce stress in the household. And parents can be assured their children have clean, appropriate, well-fitting clothing. Bags can be requested each season. In winter, we include coats, boots, hat/gloves; in summer, bathing suits and towels, in the fall, backpacks and school clothing. Bags are packed to personally suit each child and detailed information helps us tailor the package to suit the child's likes and style.
Each bag of clothing and every stroller given out is directed to a particular family. Items are ordered by agencies with a specific family in mind and then hand packed to meet the needs, sizes and situation of the family.
Kid's Kloset accepts requests from Westchester-based public schools, clinics, houses of worship, social services organizations, shelters and anyone who works with youth living in need. Donations are distributed via social services agencies across the county.
Kid's Kloset is always in need of volunteers to sort and pack clothing. It’s a great opportunity for individuals as well as youth, corporate and school groups, community organizations and houses of worship to lend a hand.
It is hard to believe that in In Westchester County nearly 12 percent of children newborn to age 18 live in poverty. Kid's Kloset is doing something to address this and, you can too! When kids have clothing and shoes that fit properly and the things they need to attend school, they are more confident and focused, which is not only a health benefit, but also a social and academic benefit. Pass it on….make a difference.
