Coordinator, Social Club

WJCS is currently seeking a part time, 34 hours per week, Coordinator to work in three of our Social Clubs in Mohegan Lake, NY. Under the general supervision of the Director of Mental Health Recovery Services, the Coordinator is responsible for providing administrative, fiscal and programmatic supervision for three social clubs serving individuals with mental illness and programmatic responsibility for two social clubs serving individuals with mental illness. At each of the three clubs, the Coordinator is responsible for developing a program structure and environment that encourages and assists persons to further their recovery in areas of their own choosing including, community integration, education, housing, spiritualism, personal growth, volunteerism, work, and relationships.

The ideal candidate must possess a Bachelors degree in human services; experience working with individuals with SPMI; and experience with budget preparation. Must have a valid driver’s license with a safe driving record and be able to operate a 15-passanger van. Able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.

Community Engagement Specialist

WJCS is currently searching for a full-time, 35 hours per week, Community Engagement Specialist to work throughout the Westchester area. The Community Engagement Specialist will work as a community liaison, or opportunities coordinator at the grassroots level to identify and connect participants to community engagement activities. This includes, but is not limited to facilitating full inclusion of individuals with disabilities into recreation, volunteer, and employment activities using person-centered approaches, administering surveys and interviews and other methods for discovery. Activities are expected to increase social skills, provide work experiences, foster choices, expand personal networks, and build community relationships. Position requires strong advocacy, problem-solving and negotiating skills, and the ability to foster positive relationships.

The Community Engagement Specialist must have an extremely warm and upbeat personality, high level of initiative and creativity and is a strong advocate for people with IDD. Knowledge and experience in Pathways to Employment, Supportive Employment (SEMP) Access-VR or experience as a job developer, employment specialist or job coach a plus.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelors Degree in Human Services, Education, Arts or Sports related fields with at least 2 years experience; coordinating, instructing or working with individuals with IDD in a community-based program setting.. Candidate must have a valid New York State driver’s license and a vehicle to travel from one site to another. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule.

Community Habilitation Worker

WJCS is currently hiring Community Habilitation/Life Skills Trainer.  The Community Habilitation/Life Skills Trainers. will be responsible to provide in home and community based habilitation services to individuals with MR/DD/LD in supported independent living. This includes education, instruction, direct services, and supports that promote individual’s chosen, individualized outcomes;  that empower and enable individuals to achieve their stated goals and to live as optimally as possible.  The Community Habilitation Worker will also be responsible to co-lead evening and weekend activities with groups of individuals. The selected person will have a minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent and must have prior experience working in the human service field or social service field working with young adults with developmental disabilities (DD).

Must be able to work flexible hours, nights and weekends. 
Must maintain reliable transportation and possess a valid NYS driver’s license and a driver’s record considered acceptable to agency insurance carrier.  Must participate in mandatory agency training assigned by Manager or Program Director.

Development Associate

Westchester Jewish Community Services is seeking a dynamic, results-oriented Development Associate to assist in the planning and managing of all fundraising events and campaigns to support our comprehensive fundraising efforts to individuals and private foundations. This is a full-time, 35 hours per week position in White Plains, NY. The Development Associate will support the Director of Development in implementing our annual fundraising plan, with particular responsibilities for: soliciting, stewarding and growing a portfolio of $1,800 to $5,000 donors; organizing events; managing the donor database; writing proposals and newsletters; assisting with gift processing, acknowledgments, mailing lists and prospect research. Other responsibilities include designing and implementing a Junior Board (Year 2); working with Board of Directors to develop mission, job description and to nominate/screen/secure candidates; planning and executing Junior Board events and education.

The ideal candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree with 2-4 years experience in fundraising/development or related field, attention to detail, team attitude, feeling ownership of the organization, and willingness to go the extra mile. Must have strong writing, editing and proofreading ability. Ability to communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing. Experience with events and managing external vendors greatly preferred. Knowledge of donor management or CRM software (eTapestry preferred), as well as the Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel and PowerPoint).

Direct Support Professional(s)

WJCS is currently searching for Direct Support Professional(s). Continuous  recruitment.   All shifts needed. Under the direction and supervision of the Residence Manager, the direct support professional will provide assistance, services and supports that promote independence and active participation in daily living within the residence and community. The residential counselor will assist the clients   to achieve their individual habitation goals and objectives. It is also necessary to provide health care and ensures the safety of the clients at all times.  

The direct support professional may administer medications as assigned. The direct support professional will serve as a role model for clients, modeling dignity and respect, drive or accompany clients to appointments, recreational, religious, day program/employment activities; and visits with others. Provide oversight and assistance to clients who are hospitalized. Complete and maintain all required documentation, records, and reports. Maintain the cleanliness and attractiveness of the residence. The selected applicant will be: a High School graduate or equivalent, have a minimum of 12 months working with people with developmental disabilities, valid driver's license, knowledge of household management, meal planning, meal preparation, shopping and knowledge of people with mental retardation, developmental disabilities, mental health challenges, and health care conditions. The ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, capable  to physically assist consumers, flexible schedule and ability to work in a variety of locations and on different shifts/time periods. It is preferred that this staff person has the ability to pass and maintain certification of WJCS required training that includes, but may not be limited to Medication Administration, SCIP, CPR/First Aid, vehicle certification and Mandatory Training identified by OPWDD.

Home Health Aides

WJCS is currently searching  for Home Health Aides,  Continuous recruitment.  10-40 hours a week in Westchester County.   The HHA will perform routine tasks that assist patients who are essentially home-bound with normal activities of daily living in their home and provide nutritional and environmental support services, which may include housekeeping, shopping, laundry services, meal preparation, paying bills and running errands.

The HHA will provide and/or assist with personal care functions to restore and/or maintain patients' activities of daily living, i.e., bathing, grooming, feeding, self medication, skin care, equipment including walkers, crutches, canes, and oxygen. Records and/or reports care given, patient's response and any deviations from normal reactions or routines. Knowledge of specific deviation from normal physical/mental functioning. Ability to understand and carry out technical, non-technical oral and/or written directions, maturity, reliability, good physical and emotional health, communication skills. Holds a certificate from a New York State Department of Health approved training course with 60 hours of classroom and 30 hours of clinical training or an approved equivalency. Must be free from reportable disease and habituation or addiction to depressants, stimulants, narcotics, alcohol or other substances that may alter behavior. NYS Driver's License preferred.

Home Visitors

The WJCS Parent-Child Home Program (PCHP) is currently recruiting part-time visitors, who receive a stipend, for the new program year 2014-2015 (October – May).Staff Training will be held in September. This meaningful and exciting work requires a minimum commitment of nine hours per week. Although Home Visitors’ hours are flexible, attendance is required at weekly staff/training meetings held on Wednesday mornings at WJCS, 141 North Central Avenue, Hartsdale, NY 10530.

The Parent-Child Home Program serves low-income families in White Plains, Port Chester, New Rochelle, Mamaroneck, Greenburgh and Mt. Vernon. Visitors call on parents and children in their homes for a half hour, twice weekly, beginning when the child is about two years old. Each week, the Home Visitor brings a book or toy and in the comfort of the family’s home, parent, child and home visitor participate in fun and stimulating activities using the book or toy. The Home Visitor models verbal interaction – reading, conversation, and play – designed to develop language and literacy skills and school readiness skills.

Home Visitors need no special educational background, but must have a personality suited to home visiting and working with parents and toddler-aged children. Prior to beginning home visits, Home Visitors participate in 16 hours of paid training.

Learning Specialist

WJCS is currently searching for an energetic, Learning Specialists  to perform part-time tutorial work with children who are experiencing difficulties with high school level math.  This position can be successfully filled by an individual who has attained or is in the process of working toward completion of a Bachelor's degree or higher in education, special education, math, reading, psychology or other liberal arts. Hourly salary is commensurate with education and experience. The applicant should have excellent communication skills in order to provide an exceptional learning experience for the student.  Tutors must be available to work after school hours and on Saturdays.   Bi-lingual, English-Spanish, is a plus but ability to work with students on Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry and Precalculus skills is mandatory.

Personal Care Aides

WJCS is currently searching  for Personal Care Aides.  Continuous recruitment.  10-40 hours a week in White Plains, N.Y. The PCA will provide nutritional and environmental support services, which may include housekeeping, grocery shopping, laundry, meal preparation, paying bills and running errands. Provide and/or assist with personal care to maintain patients in activities of daily living (i.e., bathing, personal hygiene, toileting, self-medication, and use of durable medical equipment, ex. canes, wheelchairs, and walkers). Observe, report, and record patient affect and activities as well as care given using appropriate agency channels and records. Completion of ninth grade education or equivalent. Holds a certificate from a New York State Health Department approved training course with no less than 45 hours of classroom work or an approved equivalency. Ability to read and write English. Ability to carry out simple verbal and written directions, handle small sums of money, and ability to get along with others. Must be free from reportable disease and habituation or addiction to depressants, stimulants, narcotics, alcohol or other substances that may alter behavior.

Program Assistant

WJCS is currently seeking a candidate for a part-time, 12 hour per week, Program Assistant to work in our Autism Family Center in White Plains, NY. Under general supervision of the Program Coordinator, the Program Assistant is responsible for various tasks related to the day-to-day operations of the Autism Family Center. Responsibilities include developing resource lists and guides of relevant information for families and providers; co-leading recreation and support groups as assigned; and monitoring and responding to telephone and e-mail inquiries for resources and supports.

The ideal candidate must possess a Bachelors degree in Social Work or related field; knowledge of autism spectrum disorders; and computer literate including Microsoft Office and Internet Explorer. Must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing and carry out complex directions.

Program Coordinator

WJCS is currently searching for a full-time, 35 hours per week, Program Coordinator to work in Yonkers, NY in the Mary J. Blige Center for Women. Under the general supervision of the Assistant Executive Director, the Program Coordinator for Youth Development will oversee both in-school and after-school programming for adolescent girls through the MJB Center, focusing on academic support and social skill building. Other responsibilities include leading a team of 3-5 direct service staff members in addition to interns and volunteers, who facilitate day-time group work in schools across Yonkers as well as on-site programming in the afternoons; identifying and developing new programs; drafting, managing and revising program budgets and overseeing outcome measurement and reporting for the program.

The ideal candidate must possess a BS or BA in human services or related field; strong engagement, managerial and collaboration skills; must feel comfortable and competent with working with families impacted by poverty. Registered Nurse

WJCS is searching for a Registered Nurses. This position is part-time, 30 hours per week, in Yonkers. Under general supervision from the Director of Nursing Services, the Registered Nurse will provide nursing services for individuals residing in the homes operated by Community Programs of WJCS.

The Registered Nurse will promote optimal health and safety through assessment, planning and intervention as well as collaboration with the interdisciplinary team and other health professionals. Other responsibilities include coordinating mandated evaluations, such as physicals, dental, eye/vision and audio evaluations and provide follow up for all medical recommendations; collaborating with the IDT to promote the strengths of each individual, as well as reports on current health status at quarterly, semi annual and annual reviews; and provides training to staff on all medical protocols and ensures that all staff have a good working knowledge of the trained protocol and , ensures documentation is present for all trainings.

The ideal candidate must possess a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in New York State; valid driver’s license and ability to travel to various locations; have a CPR Certification; and have experience working with the ID/DD population. Must possess good interpersonal and organizational skills and be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.

Social Club Assistant

WJCS is currently seeking a per diem Social Club Assistant to work in our Social Clubs in Mohegan Lake, NY. Under the general supervision of the Program Coordinator, the Social Club Assistant supports and encourages the club members to engage in a wide range of recovery oriented activities that span the spectrum of life including but not limited to recreational and social, educational, work, spiritual, volunteerism, financial, health, basic living skills and housing.
