The award-winning Parent-Child Home Program of WJCS is currently recruiting paid, part-time home visitors for our 2010-2011 program year (Oct.-May). The Parent-Child Home Program (PCHP) serves low income families in White Plains, Port Chestor, New Rochelle, Mamaroneck, Greenburgh and Mount Vernon. The PCHP is designed to support parents as their children's first teachers and promote school readiness for their toddler aged children. In the comfort of the family's home, parent, child and home visitor participate in fun and stimulating activities using specially selected books and toys. This meaningful and exciting work requires a minimum commitment of 9 hours per week. Although home visitor's hours are flexible, attendance is required at weekly staff/training meetings held on Wednesday mornings. New staff training will be held in September. Through collaboration with Met Council, a community based non-profit organization serving the poor, elderly, and recent immigrants in NYC; WJCS is seeking to hire an AmeriCorps member (the Outreach Coordinator) to assist in a New York City and surrounding areas-wide initiative. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Creating at least 15 sustainable volunteer programs that focus on career services and job-readiness & hunger relief and nutrition, Recruit at least 150 volunteers from the local community to participate in these programs, Assisting in training volunteers to support all programming focused on alleviating poverty in the community, Creating relationships with local businesses, schools, and community organizations to support and participate in volunteer initiatives, Participating in creating tools and resources to leverage self-guided learning and web-based technology in support of the long-term management of these volunteer systems and reporting to the Director of the Center for Women and Girls. The selected applicant will be: a High School graduate or equivalent, have a minimum of 12 months working with people with developmental disabilities, valid driver's license, knowledge of household management, meal planning, meal preparation, shopping and knowledge of people with mental retardation, developmental disabilities, mental health challenges, and health care conditions. The ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, capable to physically assist consumers, flexible schedule and ability to work in a variety of locations and on different shifts/time periods. It is preferred that this staff person has the ability to pass and maintain certification of WJCS required training that includes, but may not be limited to Medication Administration, SCIP, CPR/First Aid, vehicle certification and Mandatory Training identified by OMRDD.
