Community Direct Support Professionals

Community Programs of WJCS is currently searching for two full-time, 40 hours per week, Community Direct Support Professionals (DSP) to work in our Community Engagement Program. Under the general supervision of the Employment Coordinator, the Community DSP assists in supporting individuals with disabilities in the community in leisure activities, internships and job placements. Other responsibilities include working with individuals to connect to community activities and organizations; providing assistance at volunteer jobs, social events and community classes. This person is also responsible for the completion of documentation and billing in compliance with OPWDD regulations and agency policy.

 The ideal candidate must possess a High School Diploma or equivalent with prior experience working with individuals with disabilities. Associates degree in Human Services preferred. Community Habilitation Worker

WJCS is currently searching for several Community Habilitation Trainer to work up to 20 hours per week at $14.00 per hour. The Community Habilitation Trainer will work throughout Westchester County. Under the general supervision of the POINT Director, the Community Habilitation Trainer will be responsible to provide in home and community based habilitation services such as education, instruction, and direct services to individuals with MR/DD/LD in supported independent living settings. Other responsibilities include assisting with the development of the individuals’ Community Habilitation Plans; promoting individual’s chosen individualized outcomes that empower and enable individuals to achieve their stated goals and to live as optimally as possible; and assisting in the development of social skills by providing education, training, and role modeling.

The ideal candidate must possess a High School Diploma or equivalent with one year experience working in a related field. Experience in working with the DD population; good knowledge of nutrition and good financial practices; and able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing. Direct Support Professional(s)

Community Programs of WJCS is currently searching for both full-time (40 hours/week) and part-time (12-35 hours/week) Direct Support Professionals (DSP) to work in one of the 13 group homes located in Westchester County. Under the general supervision of the Residence Manager, the DSP will support intellectually/developmentally disabled individuals in their development of basic living and social skills with the primary goal of integrating them into the community to the best of their ability. Other responsibilities include providing assistance, services and supports that promote independence and active participation in daily living within the residence and community; administering medications as assigned; and observing and reporting individuals’ illness, health care concerns, injuries, incidents and possible individual abuse.

The ideal candidate must possess a High School Diploma or equivalent. Must have knowledge of basic residential services; able to handle sensitive issues while protecting others’ welfare; and able to participate in, pass and maintain certification of WJCS required training that includes but may not be limited to Medication Administration, SCIP, CPR/First Aid, Driving the Van and Mandatory Training as identified by OPWDD. Candidates must have a valid NYS driver’s license for at least two years. A minimum 6-12 months working with people with developmental disabilities, preferred. This position requires physical activity including but limited to lifting, moving, pulling, pushing, flexing, and bending.

Home Health Aides

WJCS is currently searching  for Home Health Aides,  Continuous recruitment.  10-40 hours a week in Westchester County.   Live-in positions available.  The HHA will perform routine tasks that assist patients who are essentially home-bound with normal activities of daily living in their home and provide nutritional and environmental support services, which may include housekeeping, shopping, laundry services, meal preparation, paying bills and running errands.

The HHA will provide and/or assist with personal care functions to restore and/or maintain patients' activities of daily living, i.e., bathing, grooming, feeding, self medication, skin care, equipment including walkers, crutches, canes, and oxygen. Records and/or reports care given, patient's response and any deviations from normal reactions or routines. Knowledge of specific deviation from normal physical/mental functioning. Ability to understand and carry out technical, non-technical oral and/or written directions, maturity, reliability, good physical and emotional health, communication skills. Holds a certificate from a New York State Department of Health approved training course with 60 hours of classroom and 30 hours of clinical training or an approved equivalency. Must be free from reportable disease and habituation or addiction to depressants, stimulants, narcotics, alcohol or other substances that may alter behavior. NYS Driver's License preferred.

Home Visitors

The WJCS Parent-Child Home Program (PCHP) is currently recruiting part-time visitors, who receive a stipend, for the new program year 2016-2017 (October – May). Staff Training will be held in September. This meaningful and exciting work requires a minimum commitment of nine hours per week. Although Home Visitors’ hours are flexible, attendance is required at weekly staff/training meetings held on Wednesday mornings at WJCS, 141 North Central Avenue, Hartsdale, NY 10530.

The Parent-Child Home Program serves low-income families in White Plains, Port Chester, New Rochelle, Mamaroneck, Greenburgh and Mt. Vernon. Visitors call on parents and children in their homes for a half hour, twice weekly, beginning when the child is about two years old. Each week, the Home Visitor brings a book or toy and in the comfort of the family’s home, parent, child and home visitor participate in fun and stimulating activities using the book or toy. The Home Visitor models verbal interaction – reading, conversation, and play – designed to develop language and literacy skills and school readiness skills.

Home Visitors need no special educational background, but must have a personality suited to home visiting and working with parents and toddler-aged children. Prior to beginning home visits, Home Visitors participate in 16 hours of paid training.

Psychologist

WJCS is looking for a part-time, 21 hours per week, Psychologist for the DD Program located in Hartsdale, NY. This position includes benefits.

The Psychologist will provide evidence-based therapeutic services to individuals ranging in age from 5 through adulthood, dually diagnosed with an intellectual disability and/or autism spectrum disorder and co-morbid psychiatric issues. The Psychologist also provides supervision, training and oversight to psychology interns, externs, and other trainees, oversees research projects and provides leadership on evidence-based practices. The individual will be a member of an interdisciplinary clinical team, and will actively participate in the WJCS APA-accredited internship selection and training process. He/she will consult with clinical staff on psychological testing, evidence-based practices, diagnostic and clinical issues, and research.

The selected candidate must have a doctorate from an APA-accredited program in clinical, counseling, or school psychology, have completed an APA-accredited internship, and possess a valid New York State license. The selected individual must have a thorough understanding of psychiatric disorders, and an interest in and some experience with developmental disabilities and/or autism spectrum disorders. Additionally, the individual must be a strong team player, and have experience working on an interdisciplinary team in an outpatient setting, a commitment to evidence-based practices, research skills, and a comfort with computer applications. Teaching/supervision experience are plusses.

Registered Nurse

WJCS is searching for a  Registered Nurses. This  is full-time, 36  hours per week Under general supervision from the Director of Nursing Services, the Registered Nurse will provide nursing services for individuals residing in the homes operated by Community Programs of WJCS.

The Registered Nurse will promote optimal health and safety through assessment, planning and intervention as well as collaboration with the interdisciplinary team and other health professionals. Other responsibilities include coordinating mandated evaluations, such as physicals, dental, eye/vision and audio evaluations and provide follow up for all medical recommendations; collaborating with the IDT to promote the strengths of each individual, as well as reports on current health status at quarterly, semi annual and annual reviews; and provides training to staff on all medical protocols and ensures that all staff have a good working knowledge of the trained protocol and , ensures documentation is present for all trainings.

The ideal candidate must possess a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in New York State; valid driver’s license and ability to travel to various locations; have a CPR Certification; and have experience working with the ID/DD population. Must possess good interpersonal and organizational skills and be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.

Senior Service Coordinator

The Senior Service Coordinator will work closely with apprentices and employees of Greyston Bakery and their family members to provide case management and referral services to community resources within Yonkers. Service Coordinator

 WJCS is currently searching for a full-time, 35 hours per week, Service Coordinator to work throughout the Westchester area. The Service Coordinator coordinates the continuity of programs, supports, and clinical services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities on their caseload. The Service Coordinator uses a person-centered planning process to develop, implement, and maintain the Individualized Service Plan (ISP), makes referrals, conducts meetings, prepares and distributes reports as required, and ensures that Medicaid and other government benefits are maintained for assigned individuals. Candidate must have good oral and written communication skills, ability to develop rapport with individuals served and their families, strong attention to detail and is able to multitask efficiently and effectively. Knowledge of OPWDD and Willowbrook Service Coordination required. Knowledge of Support Broker and Self-Direction, Medicaid, SSI, and SNAP a plus.

The ideal candidate must possess a Bachelors Degree in a health or human service field, or a Bachelors Degree in any field with at least 20 credits in health or human services, plus one-year experience assisting people with a developmental disability or working with a similar population. Social Worker, Yonkers

Under general supervision of the Clinic Director, the Social Worker will provide psycho-therapeutic services to individuals experiencing emotional difficulties in the community.  Other responsibilities include, providing clinical services to children, adults, and families utilizing various therapeutic modalities, including ongoing cases, crisis and intakes, using evidence based practices; responsible for all recording and statistical procedures required by the agency including case records, insurance forms and related data, monthly statistical sheets, schedules, surveys, etc; and maintaining necessary patient related contacts with other agencies and resources (courts, schools, etc.) including written material, telephone contact and personal visits as necessary.

The ideal candidate must have thorough knowledge of modern principles and techniques of social work.  Must be able to work with children, adolescents, adults or families.  Must be able to conduct interviews to obtain social and medical information necessary to perform diagnostic evaluation.  Able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.  Knowledge or Anazasi or other Electronic Medical Record System.  MSW from an accredited school of social work and possession of  license to practice social work in New York State issued by the State Education Department. On-going clinical supervision and training in the WJCS Education Institute.

Supervising Clinician

Westchester Jewish Community Services (WJCS) is a large, not for profit, organization with Headquarters in White Plains, NY. We are currently seeking a candidate for a full-time, 35 hours per week, Supervising Clinician in our Outpatient Programs for People with Developmental Disabilities (DD) in Hartsdale, NY. Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Supervising Clinician is responsible for overseeing various services and functions of the DD program as well as providing direct service to clients. The Supervising Clinician will carry a varied caseload of children, adolescents, and adults, supervise staff and interns, participate in the development, implementation, and oversight of therapeutic clinical programs.

There is an opportunity to learn evidence based approaches through the WJCS Educational Institute, become a member of a strong clinical team, and attend community meetings. The clients served in this program have intellectual challenges and/or autism, and co-occurring mental health problems. The DD program utilizes a rich variety of evidence-based and promising practices including therapeutic social skills groups, DBT, CBT, STAMP, and PMT.

Applicants must have a LCSW and either clinical experience working with people with developmental disabilities or clinical experience working with individuals who have mental health challenges. Supervisory and some administrative experience is essential. Must be computer literate have the ability to become proficient with the computerized record system we utilize.
