Assistant Executive Director Children, Youth and Family Services

 WJCS is currently searching for a full-time, Assistant Executive Director for Children, Youth and Family Services. The Assistant Executive Director Children, Youth and Family Services, provides leadership, administrative management and direction for the Agency's Community Based Programs. This is an executive position that reports to the Chief Operating Officer.

 The Assistant Executive Director supervises and provides direction to several Program Directors to ensure that the directors are fulfilling program responsibilities in directing and administering their programs’ goals and objectives. The Assistant Executive Director monitors funding sources within the Agency.

 The ideal candidate must, at a minimum, have a strong knowledge of mental health and preventive services for children and families; knowledge of government policies and procedures as they relate to community based programs that are government funded; and budgeting, proposal and program development skills.Minimum education requirement is a Masters level degree in Social Work or a related field coupled with ten years or more experience as an administrator in a related field.

Accounts Payable Specialist

WJCS is currently searching for a full-time, 35 hours per week, Accounts Payable Specialist to work in our headquarters office in White Plains, NY. Under the general supervision of the Accounting Manager, the Accounts Payable Specialist performs tasks involving the recording of expenses and cash disbursements following prescribed practices and procedures. Other responsibilities include inputting and allocating invoices, purchase orders, expense reports and recurring expenditures to a computerized accounting system; obtaining proper approvals and backing up documentation; and performing administrative tasks related to financial record keeping.

The ideal candidate must have knowledge of A/P procedures and controls; must be able to use spreadsheet programs like Microsoft XL and Word; and must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships and to relate well with supervisors, program officials, employees and others. High school or equivalency diploma, three years of experience in financial record keeping, or Associates degree in Accounting or Business Administration and one year of experience required. Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.

Assistant Residence Manager

WJCS is currently searching for a full-time, 40 hours per week, Assistant Residence Manager to work in a group home in New Rochelle, NY. Under general supervision of the Residence Manager, the Assistant Residence Manager performs a variety of tasks associated with assisting the Residence Manager with the responsibilities of the supervision and overall operation of a community based residence that provides residential rehabilitation services and supports for persons with intellectual/developmental disabilities. Other responsibilities include performing the duties and essential functions of the position of Direct Support Professional; providing Person Centered Supports as out lined in the NYS DSP Code of Ethics; and promoting and practicing justice, fairness, and equity for the people you support and the community as a whole and will affirm the human rights, civil rights and responsibilities of the people you support.

The ideal candidate must have knowledge of individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities, mental health challenges, and health care conditions; knowledge of OPWDD Standards; and knowledge of supervisory and administrative practices that promote team work and development of staff. Must possess a High School Diploma or equivalent, two years of College preferred. Two years experience working with persons with developmental disabilities and one-year supervisory experience. A Valid Driver’s License for over two years is a must.

Community Habilitation Worker

WJCS is currently hiring Community Habilitation/Life Skills Trainer.  The Community Habilitation/Life Skills Trainers. will be responsible to provide in home and community based habilitation services to individuals with MR/DD/LD in supported independent living. This includes education, instruction, direct services, and supports that promote individual’s chosen, individualized outcomes;  that empower and enable individuals to achieve their stated goals and to live as optimally as possible.  The Community Habilitation Worker will also be responsible to co-lead evening and weekend activities with groups of individuals. The selected person will have a minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent and must have prior experience working in the human service field or social service field working with young adults with developmental disabilities (DD).

Must be able to work flexible hours, nights and weekends. 
Must maintain reliable transportation and possess a valid NYS driver’s license and a driver’s record considered acceptable to agency insurance carrier.  Must participate in mandatory agency training assigned by Manager or Program Director.

Direct Support Professional(s)

WJCS is currently searching for Direct Support Professional(s). Continuous  recruitment.   All shifts needed. Under the direction and supervision of the Residence Manager, the direct support professional will provide assistance, services and supports that promote independence and active participation in daily living within the residence and community. The residential counselor will assist the clients   to achieve their individual habitation goals and objectives. It is also necessary to provide health care and ensures the safety of the clients at all times.  

The direct support professional may administer medications as assigned. The direct support professional will serve as a role model for clients, modeling dignity and respect, drive or accompany clients to appointments, recreational, religious, day program/employment activities; and visits with others. Provide oversight and assistance to clients who are hospitalized. Complete and maintain all required documentation, records, and reports. Maintain the cleanliness and attractiveness of the residence. The selected applicant will be: a High School graduate or equivalent, have a minimum of 12 months working with people with developmental disabilities, valid driver's license, knowledge of household management, meal planning, meal preparation, shopping and knowledge of people with mental retardation, developmental disabilities, mental health challenges, and health care conditions. The ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, capable  to physically assist consumers, flexible schedule and ability to work in a variety of locations and on different shifts/time periods. It is preferred that this staff person has the ability to pass and maintain certification of WJCS required training that includes, but may not be limited to Medication Administration, SCIP, CPR/First Aid, vehicle certification and Mandatory Training identified by OPWDD.

Early Childhood Program Manager

WJCS is currently searching for a full-time, 35 hours per week, Early Childhood Project Manager to work in Mt. Vernon, NY. Under the general supervision of the Director, the Project Manager will oversee the daily operations of the Mt. Vernon Parent Child Home Program (PCHP) as well as the Child Care Home Program (CCHP). These early childhood programs focus on early literacy, social development and parent/teacher training. Other responsibilities include: direct supervision of program staff; community outreach; planning and implementation of program protocol, policies and procedures, including strategic plans for expansion; advocacy around the needs and issues of all young children and specifically the children and families of Mount Vernon.

The ideal candidate must have strong knowledge of Early Childhood Development, Developmentally Appropriate Practice and Evidence Based Best Practices in School Readiness and Mental Health; strong managerial skills and experience in program planning, implementation and supervision; and experience working with communities impacted by urban poverty. MSW or MA in an Early Childhood Education with emphasis on child development and parent education; BA considered with extensive experience in early childhood, mental health and administration. Candidates must be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.

Home Health Aides

WJCS is currently searching  for Home Health Aides,  Continuous recruitment.  10-40 hours a week in Westchester County.   The HHA will perform routine tasks that assist patients who are essentially home-bound with normal activities of daily living in their home and provide nutritional and environmental support services, which may include housekeeping, shopping, laundry services, meal preparation, paying bills and running errands.

The HHA will provide and/or assist with personal care functions to restore and/or maintain patients' activities of daily living, i.e., bathing, grooming, feeding, self medication, skin care, equipment including walkers, crutches, canes, and oxygen. Records and/or reports care given, patient's response and any deviations from normal reactions or routines. Knowledge of specific deviation from normal physical/mental functioning. Ability to understand and carry out technical, non-technical oral and/or written directions, maturity, reliability, good physical and emotional health, communication skills. Holds a certificate from a New York State Department of Health approved training course with 60 hours of classroom and 30 hours of clinical training or an approved equivalency. Must be free from reportable disease and habituation or addiction to depressants, stimulants, narcotics, alcohol or other substances that may alter behavior. NYS Driver's License preferred.

Home Visitors

The WJCS Parent-Child Home Program (PCHP) is currently recruiting part-time visitors, who receive a stipend, for the new program year 2014-2015 (October – May).Staff Training will be held in September. This meaningful and exciting work requires a minimum commitment of nine hours per week. Although Home Visitors’ hours are flexible, attendance is required at weekly staff/training meetings held on Wednesday mornings at WJCS, 141 North Central Avenue, Hartsdale, NY 10530.

The Parent-Child Home Program serves low-income families in White Plains, Port Chester, New Rochelle, Mamaroneck, Greenburgh and Mt. Vernon. Visitors call on parents and children in their homes for a half hour, twice weekly, beginning when the child is about two years old. Each week, the Home Visitor brings a book or toy and in the comfort of the family’s home, parent, child and home visitor participate in fun and stimulating activities using the book or toy. The Home Visitor models verbal interaction – reading, conversation, and play – designed to develop language and literacy skills and school readiness skills.

Home Visitors need no special educational background, but must have a personality suited to home visiting and working with parents and toddler-aged children. Prior to beginning home visits, Home Visitors participate in 16 hours of paid training.

Learning Specialist

WJCS is currently searching for an energetic, Learning Specialists  to perform part-time tutorial work with children who are experiencing difficulties with high school level math.  This position can be successfully filled by an individual who has attained or is in the process of working toward completion of a Bachelor's degree or higher in education, special education, math, reading, psychology or other liberal arts. Hourly salary is commensurate with education and experience. The applicant should have excellent communication skills in order to provide an exceptional learning experience for the student.  Tutors must be available to work after school hours and on Saturdays.   Bi-lingual, English-Spanish, is a plus but ability to work with students on Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry and Precalculus skills is mandatory.

WJCS is currently searching for a part-time, approximately 10 hours per week, Learning Specialist/Tutor to work in two schools in Peekskill, NY. The Learning Specialist/Tutor performs academic instructional work for children who need remediation in English Language Arts and mathematics. Other responsibilities include maintaining a caseload of children with academic difficulties; maintaining records and notes in accordance with program policy; and participating in performance review and supervisory meetings as requested by supervisor.

The ideal candidate must possess a Bachelor’s degree in education, special education, or reading with some experience in teaching children, Master’s degree preferred; minimum of 1 year experience working with children; and must be free from reportable disease and habituation or addiction to depressants, stimulants, narcotics, alcohol or other substances that may alter behavior. WJCS is currently searching  for Personal Care Aides.  Continuous recruitment.  10-40 hours a week in White Plains, N.Y. The PCA will provide nutritional and environmental support services, which may include housekeeping, grocery shopping, laundry, meal preparation, paying bills and running errands. Provide and/or assist with personal care to maintain patients in activities of daily living (i.e., bathing, personal hygiene, toileting, self-medication, and use of durable medical equipment, ex. canes, wheelchairs, and walkers). Observe, report, and record patient affect and activities as well as care given using appropriate agency channels and records. Completion of ninth grade education or equivalent. Holds a certificate from a New York State Health Department approved training course with no less than 45 hours of classroom work or an approved equivalency. Ability to read and write English. Ability to carry out simple verbal and written directions, handle small sums of money, and ability to get along with others. Service Coordinator

WJCS is currently searching for a full-time, 35 hours per week, Service Coordinator to work throughout the Westchester area. The Service Coordinator coordinates the continuity of programs, supports, and clinical services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities on their caseload. The Service Coordinator uses a person-centered planning process to develop, implement, and maintain the Individualized Service Plan (ISP), makes referrals, conducts meetings, prepares and distributes reports as required, and ensures that Medicaid and other government benefits are maintained for assigned individuals. Candidate must have good oral and written communication skills, ability to develop rapport with individuals served and their families, strong attention to detail and is able to multitask efficiently and effectively. Knowledge of OPWDD, self directed services and governmental benefits, such as Medicaid and SNAP a plus.

The ideal candidate must possess a Bachelors Degree in a health or human service field, or a Bachelors Degree in any field with at least 20 credits in health or human services, plus one-year experience assisting people with a developmental disability or working with a similar population. Candidate must have a Valid New York State driver’s license and a vehicle to travel from one site to another.

WJCS has an exciting opportunity to work in an elementary school based satellite mental health clinic in Yonkers, NY. The position is 12 months per year, full time at 35-hours per week with benefits. The candidate is responsible for providing direct clinical services to children and families in a busy school setting, as well as all related clinical documentation. Social Worker

 WJCS is currently searching for a part-time Social Worker for work 21 to 28 hours per week, 10 months out of the year in its Early Childhood program in Yonkers, NY. Under the general supervision of the Director, the Social Worker will provide direct mental health services and supports to the children and families in the early childhood project. Other responsibilities include observing, identifying and assessing children with early or emergent social emotional or behavioral challenges and to intervene with a preventative stance; maintaining orderly and timely records in accordance with agency policy and procedures and in accordance with the requirements of the project; and participating in the county Systems of Care and completion of SOC training.

 The ideal candidate must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and to relate well with supervisors, program participants, employees, independent consultants and others; thorough knowledge, training and experience in the field of early childhood; and thorough understanding of child development and the importance and power of family and child care center staff for the well being and development of children. Must possess a MSW or licensed Mental Health Counselor, NYS Driver’s license with reliable vehicle and must be computer literate. Bilingual, Spanish preferred.
